Hey there, it’s great to see you here!

My name is Pat, and I come from a town in the middle of Ireland called Portlaoise. The first board game I remember owning is Snakes and Ladders, though I also played a lot of Ludo and Tiddlywinks as a small child. As I got a bit older, I used to play Ghost Castle, Mouse Trap, Escape from Atlantis and later of course we played Monopoly, Cluedo and Risk. As a young teenager I used to love Hero Quest and Space Crusade.

And I’m Glai, from the northernmost island in the Philippines, Batanes. I became an avid fan of boardgames when I met Pat. But I did play Scrabble when I was younger, we do not have any of these modern boardgames back then in the island. I didn’t even know Monopoly exists. Hmm, kind of embarrassing! but since I embraced this hobby, I love it to bits and I know I’ll always will. The challenge and the fun just tickles my very soul. But I do have a favourite, Terraforming Mars by Jacob Frixelious.

Together, we are ALL ABOARD.

One day, while I (Pat) is listening to an Irish radio, there was an interview with a guy whose job was to help write the rules and test board games. That interview rekindled my interest in the hobby I used to love so much. He mentioned three gateway games - Catan, Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne. Within a few days I had all three and I have never turned back. I was amazed to find out that there were channels on YouTube dedicated to board games and I thought that it would be really fun to tie together two of my favourite hobbies - travelling and playing games. I gathered together some of my friends and we went on a few trips within Japan where we played the games and filmed the locations.

Pat & I (Glai) met while he was on a business trip to my home island of Batanes and I was visiting my family. I was living in Dubai back then. Fast forward, we decided to do a couple of international trips and make some episodes of All Aboard. We had no experience on how to make videos, but we had fun and decided to stick with it. After a couple of years, I moved to Japan and we had big plans to make lots of episodes of travelling and playing board games.

However, then the pandemic broke out and we were no longer able to travel. That is when we started to do playthroughs at home.

… and the All Aboard as you know it was born.
